LAST CHANCE FOR SOLAR BATTERY GRANTS
This is anticipated to be the last release of places and increases the total number of battery (new PV and retrofit) installations available under the scheme to 3,650.
The Government are legislatively required to cease accepting customer applications to the scheme at 11:59pm on 30 June 2019 and NO EXTENSIONS can be made to this deadline.
To be eligible for the battery rebate & loan you:
- Must be the home owner
- Cannot be on the 44c feed in tariff
- Battery and or Solar must be installed within 6mths
Steps to have rebate and loan approved:
- Get a Quote from Essential Energy Solutions
- Apply for rebate online www.qld.gov.au/batteryloans
- Obtain approval
- Send Certificate of Approval to Essential Energy Solutions
Grants available:
- $3000 off the battery – Residential and Small Business
- Interest Free Loans are also available through QRIDA – Government funding department.
Residential Only Battery Loans:
- $6000 – 10 year interest free loan available (max loan amount $6000) + you also receive the $3000 grant
Solar & Battery Loans:
$10,000 – 10 year interest free loan available (max loan $10,000) + you also receive the $3000 grant
QRIDA is a government funding office that will process the applications and they may request further supporting documents.
GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS WITH A HYBRID SOLAR BATTERY SYSTEM
Regular PV solar arrays feed all energy produced into the household and send any excess energy back to the grid. Typically, households will use the solar energy at around 60-70% efficiency but with a battery the energy is stored and consumed exactly when the house needs it so that it's possible to achieve 100% efficiency.
A 6.5kW solar array in Brisbane will produce an average of 27.3kWh/day which equates to 99,645kWh over a 10-year period.

At 11:47 am today:
- Panels generating 5.693 Kw
- 2.389 Kw going into the batteries which are now 96.2% full
- 785 watts going into the house – and my inverter pool pump is running at low power and 2.306 Kw being fed back into the grid.
I suspect we are very close to “break even”, although the days are very sunny.

HOW DO SOLAR BATTERIES WORK?
When you don’t use all the power produced by your solar system during the sunny periods or you may not be home to use the excess power or have less demand for the power, the excess power can be exported back to the grid and your retailer will pay you or place a credit on your account.
However with the recent changes to export restrictions and changes in feed in tariffs have seen drops in the price per kilowatt & you paying a higher rate for electricity at night.
With Battery backup the excess power can be used to charge your batteries. This gives you the opportunity to use the stored power in your batteries that has been generated during the day in the evenings or peak times, this means a cheaper electricity bill and you may find yourself not paying for any electricity.
